I am Sophia Zoë Kilmer, a proud Montgomery County resident who feels privileged to raise my son in this diverse and vibrant community. Being a parent is one of the greatest joys of my life, and it strengthens my commitment to creating a fairer and more inclusive future. I’ve dedicated my personal and professional life to advocating for justice, and I’m honored to continue this mission through Defend Trans Rights—a legal advocacy initiative to ensure trans individuals have access to the legal support they deserve.
For over 13 years, I’ve had the privilege of fighting for justice as a trial attorney. My career has allowed me to stand beside those at their most vulnerable—representing injured workers, families navigating catastrophic loss, and victims of wrongful death. Along the way, I’ve earned a Juris Doctorate from Washburn School of Law and an LLM in Globalization and the Law from Maastricht University. These experiences, combined with high-profile legal victories and the trust of my peers, have prepared me to advocate effectively and compassionately for the trans community through Defend Trans Rights.
I believe that justice should be accessible to everyone, especially those who have been historically marginalized. My legal philosophy is rooted in fairness, empathy, and accountability. As I lead Defend Trans Rights, I am committed to ensuring that trans individuals who face discrimination, violence, or violations of their civil rights receive the legal representation they deserve. Every case I take on will be approached with care, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility to the community.
Throughout my career, I’ve fought for those who needed someone in their corner the most. I’ve stood with disadvantaged communities, secured justice for victims of catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, and taken on major institutions, including mega-corporations and organizations like the NCAA. Each case I’ve handled has reinforced my belief in the power of the legal system to create meaningful change when approached with integrity, compassion, and determination.
I bring a sharp legal mind, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to fairness in everything I do. My years of experience have honed my judgment and prepared me to handle even the most complex cases with precision and care. Above all, I believe in humility, dedication, and ensuring that every person I represent feels heard, respected, and treated with dignity.
The legal system should serve everyone, not just the powerful. I’m committed to ensuring that justice is accessible to all, especially those who have been marginalized or overlooked. Through Defend Trans Rights, I will lead with fairness, empathy, and accountability, ensuring that every case reflects our community’s values of equity and inclusion.
My mission with Defend Trans Rights is to ensure that every trans person who faces discrimination, harassment, or civil rights violations has access to compassionate, skilled legal representation. Legal battles are often overwhelming, and many in the trans community face systemic barriers when seeking justice. I will work to eliminate those barriers, ensuring that every case is treated with the seriousness and dedication it deserves.
Legal advocacy doesn’t stop in the courtroom. Defend Trans Rights will be a resource for education, awareness, and systemic change. I believe that by supporting trans individuals in their legal battles, we are also paving the way for broader societal change. My work in the community as an advocate for equality, mental health awareness, and LGBTQ+ rights has prepared me to lead this initiative and make a meaningful impact.

Through Defend Trans Rights, I will work to ensure that every trans person who seeks justice has the legal support they need to fight back. This isn’t just about defending individuals—it’s about challenging systems that perpetuate inequality and building a future where no one is left behind.
